CHRONOLOGY

   * On 1 January 1929 the Municipality launched the City Buses Enterprise of Lublin. This date is regarded as the beginning of the proper functioning of public transport in Lublin. At first only 2 communication lines were operating - line A: Station - Koszary (Barracks) route, and B: Station - Kalinowszczyzna..

   * At the turn of 1938 and 1939 a depot, which had the facilities to garage and service 30 buses, was built at Garbarska St.

   * In 1951 the name of the Local Transit Company was changed to the Municipal Transport Company.

   * On 21 July 1953 the first trolleybus appeared on the streets of Lublin. The first trolleybus line was 4 km long and was operated by 6 Soviet trolleybuses of the ITB type.

   * In 1955 the total length of the routes was 81 km.

  * In 1957, the construction of a then-innovative bus and trolleybus depot was launched in Helenów District, designed for 100 vehicles. In January 1960 the first hall in this building was commissioned, and the entire investment was completed in spring 1963.

   * In 1973 a new traffic system was introduced in Lublin, which provided as many direct connections as possible from the place of living to the place of work and vice versa, liquidated the radial system of lines, introduced the diagonal system, and increased the frequency of vehicles running during peak hours. The main investments completed that year included the modernisation of the rectifier station at Szczerbowskiego St., the adaptation of area at Młyńska St. to a temporary depot, and the modernisation of the Helenów Depot.

   * In July 1976 the Municipal Transit Company in Kraśnik was created, a branch of MPK in Lublin. In the beginning, 37 buses of the “San” make were transferred from our company, which allowed the starting of 10 lines with a total length of 131 km.

   * 1979 was the 50th anniversary of public transport in Lublin. MPK then administered 352 buses and 54 trolleybuses; and the average amount of passengers carried every day was about 500 thousand. The company employed almost 2,000 people.

   * In July 1980 a new hall for servicing “Berliet” buses was commissioned at Nałęczowska St. The extension of the substation was completed at Garbarska St. and the building of a new bus depot was started at Majdan Tatarski.

   * In April 1982, as the founding body, the Mayor of Lublin approved the statute of MPK in Lublin. This document described the legal relations between the company and its surroundings, the authority of the company’s bodies, and mutual relations between them. In comparison with previous regulations, the bodies of the company gained greater independence, while new organisational regulations of the company were brought into effect in June.

  * In June 1982, at a meeting of representatives of 6 transport companies in the country (including MPK Lublin), the Association of Public Transport Companies in Poland was established. This Association was started with the aim of cooperation of public transport companies, representation of common interests of the companies and providing services for the members of the Association.

  * On 15 December 1985 in a new depot at Majdan Tatarski, with two new general service halls with service bays, bodywork stations, and professional training and employee facilities for the staff, were commissioned - also the official relocation of Bus Transport Company No. 2 to a new depot took place. The final completion of building the depot at Majdan Tatarski was in 1986.

   * In August 1991 the Municipal Transport Company in Lublin ceased to function as a state-owned entity and, pursuant to the Resolution of the Municipal Government in Lublin, as of 1 September 1991 started to function as a Budgetary Entity.

   * In 1992 MPK Lublin was the first to introduce a system of season tickets in Poland. From that time passengers could buy season tickets for one or all lines, valid for the following 7, 10, 15, 30 or 90 days.

   * Two years later, in July 1994, the system of single time-limited time tickets was introduced. Depending on the length of the route which the passenger has to cover, and, as a result, depending on the time needed for travel, he or she could buy a 10-minute, 20-minute or 60-minute ticket.

   * In April 1994 the Municipal Transport Company extended its business by providing transport services for the disabled with microbuses specially adapted for that purpose.

   * In 1994 due to the renovation of the main street in Lublin - Krakowskie Przedmieście – the trolley bus traction which was functioning there was removed.

   * In 1996 the first low-floor buses appeared in Lublin - the first were four Jelcz M121; Neoplans appeared a little later.

   * On 1 January 1998 the Municipal Transport Company in Lublin was converted from a Budgetary Entity into a Limited Liability Company. This involved a number of changes in the management, organisational structure and business.

   * In the year 2001 the first low-floor trolleybus in the city marked as an EKO-BUS Jelcz M121E was put into operation.

   * On 17 December 2007 a section of Roztocze-Orkana-Armii Krajowej-Bohaterów Monte Cassino-Wileńska-Głęboka trolleybus line was put into service.

    * In April 2008 a low-floor Solaris Trollino 12 trolleybus came to Lublin, bought within the framework of a project co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund under the Integrated Operational Programme for Regional Development.

     * In June – August 2008 MPK Lublin bought 20 new Solaris URBINO 12 buses

   * On 18 August 2008 an E-Ticket System was activated. After that, paper season tickets were discarded.

   * In December 2008 MPK Lublin bought two new Mercedes Conecto LF buses.

   * In July–September 2009 the fleet of MPK Lublin was replenished with 30 new Mercedes Conecto (twenty LF units and ten G units).

   * On 1 December 2009 MPK Lublin signed a 10 year contract for providing public transport services with the Lublin Commune.

   * On 23 April 2010 on the streets of Lublin debuted the MAZ 203T trolleybus – a vehicle assembled in Lublin on the body of the Belarusian MAZ 203 bus.
